Draisine, or railbikes as they’re commonly called, were originally designed for workers performing track maintenance. However, railbikes are now gaining popularity for their recreational use on decommissioned tracks.
Railbikes in Odate first made their appearance as a prop in Hana-bachan., a film showcasing local scenery and attractions. With that, the idea of creating a real railbike experience gained momentum and in October of 2011, with prefectural and local support, Odate-Kosaka Railbike was born.
Now, visitors have the opportunity enjoy the scenic beauty of Odate while riding the rails. There are bike sizes suited for every occasion, whether it’s an outing with the family, or enjoying the scenery with someone special. For those who want to take it easy, motorized sightseeing cars are also available!
